Influenza activity decreased to “SPORADIC”-level in South Dakota during the past week.

· 8 new confirmed* cases of influenza were reported last week: 25% Influenza A and 75% Influenza B, (983 confirmed cases cumulative so far this season). [*Lab confirmed: PCR, culture or DFA]
· 1 new influenza-associated death reported; 38 total deaths for season, including 3 pediatric deaths. Median age: 88 years (range <1-100 years). 50% female, 50% male; 11% American Indian; 89% White. Residents of the following counties: Beadle 1, Brookings 1, Brown 3, Butte 1, Charles Mix 1, Codington 1, Davison 1, Dewey 1, Edmunds 1, Fall River 3, Grant 3, Hamlin 1, Hand 1, Hughes 3, Hutchinson 1, Lake 2, Meade 2, Minnehaha 5, Pennington 5 and Yankton 1.
· 4 new influenza-associated hospitalizations reported this week (358 hospitalizations so far this season).
· 11% positive rapid antigen tests reported statewide (19 positives out of 180 individuals tested last week).
· 2% of K-12 students were absent due to illness, range 0% - 4% absent (108 schools reporting encompassing 39,439 students).
· The SD ILI-Net reports 0.6% of outpatient visits were for Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), which were 20 patients of 3,088 outpatients during the week. 40% of ILI patients were children ≤4 years of age. (22 South Dakota clinics participate in the CDC’s ILI surveillance program.)

- REGIONAL activity in 6 states;
- LOCAL activity in 8 states;
- SPORADIC activity in 33states, including South Dakota;
- NO ACTIVITY in 0 states;

- SPORADIC activity in North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota.
